A Stroll With Daddy

Today, Dad and I went for a walk. We made it about halfway up our hill, and then turned around to come back home. The incline challenged Dad in a way the slick, level hospital halls did not. Throughout the day, Dad read your encouraging comments and sat on the patio, feeling invigorated by the lively wind. In the afternoon, I drove home from the gym and found the grandkids climbing on Papa, adorning him with hugs and smiles. Each day, Dad gains strength, stretching his limits and finding more normalcy every moment. I'll update in a few days. Thank you for your love and support.

Hello Milan & Kay!

Praise God Milan and you are home! Be encouraged saints! God is always on time and is in the "minute by minute" business.
I will continue to pray for a quick healing. Be encouraged and know that the saints are holding you both up daily. Rest and be assured that God hears your heart concerning all the emotions you both have just gone through. Both physically and spiritually.
We know that through those prayers God sent an angel whom had the wisdom to "get that fluid out" We forget just how fragile we are. Because these procedures are done several times a day we forget how each one is an individual heartbeat.
I love to hear Milan on the radio show and know that your last co-authored book has helped many.
Take this time to listen to the whispers of your hearts and be encouraged!

Milan & Kay & Kelly -

How nice it must be to have Milan back home. My prayers continue for a full recovery. I always new that Milan had a big heart, but 7 cups of fluid???? Wow!

Praise God that all of Milan's martial arts training wasn't just for defensive purposes, but was to help his heart be strong enough to endure this trial. God is good.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

God Bless all of you.

Welcome home Milan! Take time to heal your body and spirit so you can enjoy another 'waterslide al fresco' when little Roxy turns 3.

Milan & Kay,

I have been lifting you before the thrown weeks before your surgery and continue to do so today. It's comforting to hear you are home and are well on you way to recovery. From what Eric tells me, it hasn't been a cakewalk. But then again, you are the unique sort and nothing is run-of-the-mill. I just think of the heartfelt encouragement you can offer others with firsthand stories of the God's remarkable faithfulness. And from what I hear, God's given you've got ample fodder... If a round of gold will motivate you to take the extra step, you've got one on me. Blessings to you and our family. Mark Jordan (the photographer...)

Milan, Kay, and family,
How nice to be home! I know now your recovery will move forward leaps and bounds. It is so good to hear that you are walking and sitting outside to soak up God's beautiful creation around you, and those grandkids! There is no better medicine, who wouldn't cheer up with them around.
It has been a roller coaster ride for both of you and your family, and it has been difficult to see someone who gives so much to others having a difficult time.
I am on my knees before our loving Father on your behalf, Milan and Kay. God is good and I know that He has more blessings ahead for you.
With Love in Him,
Kathy Olsen

Dear Milan & Kay,

HALLEJAH!!! So glad to hear you are home again. That, in and of itself, will make you feel better.

Please know that your health, Milan and Kay, - physical and emotional and all the other ways - will remain in my prayers, as well as for a swift and complete recovery and for good, restful sleep.

Please be encouraged by the fact that so many people you have brought to know the Lord and those you have helped in countless ways are a lot of the ones who have been keeping you in their prayers and thoughts.

Having almost died during a hospitalization quite a number of years ago, there are a couple of things i'd like to remind you about.

One of the most important things you can do is just to take it "one day at a time." (I got so tired of hearing it, but it IS the truth.) You may overextend, without even realizing it, one day; and the next day you will feel worse. Don't worry! This is perfectly normal.

Even though you have a huge, loving, and strong heart, you and your body have been really stressed, and it will take some time to feel like you're more back to normal.

If you're really tired or don't feel like it and someone comes to visit, don't feel guilty about not seeing them. Just have someone explain to them that you need your rest right now. They WILL understand.

Don't feel like you have to be the quickest one to recover from this. Take your time to recover and be thankful. It's not a race. Be the turtle who is slow but doesn't give up.

You have both been through an ordeal. This has been very emotionally draining. (I know y'all of all people know this but just wanted to remind you that the fluctuating emotions are just releasing some of those emotions and are perfectly normal.)

Hope none of this has sounded preachy or out of place, but I know that this type of experience can play havoc with you emotionally as well as physically. And not a lot of people have been through something like this.

With much love and affection, nancy

Good morning! I love this blog - NL supporters/listeners/counselors really do form a family, and it's no fun when one family member is struggling! We continue to pray for Milan's healing and return of strength. We believe he will, once again, run and not grow weary!
Kay, as a wife of a chronically-ill husband, I can so relate to your emotional state. Being the advocate/watchdog for our husbands while they are ill can be totally taxing. I pray you will find a place of rest from the state of hypervigilance. God bless - Elaine from PA

Milan,

Lindsey and I have been following the blog and have been praying for you along this journey. We are so relieved that you are home and so thankful that you have so many caring, praying, friends and family around you.

By the way, we are coming up on our 4 year anniversary, and our marriage has been just amazing...must be that premarital counseling we received!

Milan & Kay,

Greetings to you both! I feel so bad I wasn't aware of what you were going thru - I've been way behind in listening to the show archives & haven't been on the New Life website! Mark and I will definitely be praying for your health issues, and for your family. You are loved!

Wow! home! We are so thankful to God for how he has healed you bit by bit. I was praying for you a few nights ago, that God would give you understanding as to why he brought you through this procedure the way he did. He could have stopped all the steps that happened after the initial surgery, but he chose to allow them. During your physical healing, may you basque in the wonder of how his mighty hand was literally over your whole body, protecting you the entire time. I know God will use this to increase his glory and your growth....and God willing, the growth of others. You have such a voice, audience, and say in the Christian community. May you use this crazy unexpected circumstance to tell others just how good our Lord truly is. Enjoy all the little things like what Kay mentioned we all take for granted! Just wanted you to know that Dave is praying for you on the other side of the globe, in Indonesia. I'm so excited to tell him you're home. Take care. I'll keep praying for your recovery.
Much love, Dave and Katie Sherreitt

Hallelujah! May all praise & honor & glory go to our Heavenly Father who heard & answered our prayers on behalf of the family.
I sense a lighter & airier step in your family's activities now & a huge relief by having Milan back home. Even Kelly's blog updates seem to have a poetic, carefree, ornate & worry-free feeling to them. I know you all are feeling less tense now. Praise the Lord! God is good all the time.

Wow, we finally got the info about this blog from Jay and Jan! We have been gone but still praying since the day of surgery. We were assuming "no news was good news" and just kept up the prayers for strength and healing. We've been with the grandkids and hadn't even been listening to the radio show to get any updates. What a long uphill climb this has been!
Thank you so much Kelly for doing this!
Milan you always were the healthiest athlete among our trio from the old days and am I ever glad you are! It's so nice to know God isn't finished with you yet.
I'm going to go read all of the other comments now to get a full picture of the battle of the last three weeks!
We love you and pray to see you again soon.

Hi You Guys, from Jay & Jan.

Wow! What a journey!

Jan and I are sitting here thanking about God's grace.

For example, yesterday was our 37th year together in marriage. That is grace.

We did not choose where to be born. That was God's choice. Once again his grace. Praise God for the medical care in the West - the people, the facilities, the equipment, the medications, etc.

Praise God the the doc who whisked Milan into his second procedure. God's grace.

Praise God for families who love God and each other. God's grace.

Praise God for Kelly and her ability to write "good."

We are now in the midst of another journey with dear friends - Lance & Betsy Stowe. Betsy has cancer - for the second time. Thirteen years ago she had a "radical mastectomy. Now she has a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, "diffuse large B cell" cancer.

Grace, grace, God's grace.

We Love You,
Jay & Jan

Milan:
Sorry to hear your surgery turned out to be way more than you wanted or needed, but we're glad to know your complications were resolved and that you're home on the mend. We're sure you'll soon be feeling healthy and strong and will be back counseling, mentoring and providing support to others as you've done so well for so many years.
Love,

Hi Milan, Kay and Kelly!!

Aimee back from the Via San Gil days just told me this weekend what was going on. I am shocked, sad and now very hopeful that things seem to be on the upswing. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers daily!! I've been singing "McMilan's is the kind of place," to my kids all day...I think they've heard enough of that.

Take care and hold tight to those closest to you. Please call on us if you need anything at all!!

Much love and continued prayers,
